THE SEKYERE CENTRAL DISTRICT ASSEMBLY VACCINATES 15000 LIVESTOCK ON FREE COUNT FOR FARMERS
Livestock rearing has remained one of the oldest occupation from the days of Adam and it has been recognized as one of the lucrative ventures.
Many of Ghanaian farmers at the rural communities over the years had been reminiscing as to how best they could do this business to the highest spectrum because of the persistent challenges that they are being encountered with which has got party to do with disease that kills their animals .The district assembly spends 200,000.00 every year to vaccinate the 157,000 livestock.
Speaking to the district veterinary officer,Mr Daniel Adomako Stated that more than 90,0000 which represent 60% of toll death of livestocks are recorded in a year out of the endowed 157,000 animals in the district.According to him the common diseases which normally affect the animals are the mange and the PPR which is more financial driving before many of such animals could be treated.
To curtail the aforementioned challenge,the DCE for the area Hon Kwadwo Banahene Badiako has initiated a policy dubbed "OPERATION VACCINATE YOUR LIVESTOCK ON FREE COUNT".
According to him, he can't lukewarm when farmers are losing hope in their investment on a challenge that could be controlled.He explained the farmers looses a whooping sum of 1.4million to the animal toll death hence the need to vaccinate and deworm the to curtail this bizarre situation in the area.
In line with this,the district assembly teamed up with the MoFA to vaccinate 15000 livestock on free count for the farmers in the district.
This exercise has been perennial in nature to help boost the morale of farmers and also to help offer them a sigh of relief in their trade.
