FARMERS RECOMMENDED TOTHE USAGE OF ORGANIC FERTILIZERS _MoFA



















    Mrs. Lois Kakari, the Ashanti Regional Director of Agriculture in charge of crops had called on crop farmers to adopt the usage of organic fertilizers which the government had introduced onto the market. 


  She opined that the organic  fertilizers doesn't pose any health challenge to the users and the same time maintains soil fertility subsequently and improves yields as well.


   With this inline farmers are therefore recommended to vow for the organic fertilizers to help revamp the  strength of the soil.

 

It is part of the government flagship program dubbed ,PLANTING FOR FOOD AND JOB for this reason it is being sold to the farmers at a subsides and comparatively at low price.


   He brought fore this when the Ashanti Regional MoFA Directorate organized a sensitization program for  the farmers in the Sekyere Central District on the usage of organic fertilizers comparatively with inorganic fertilizers.


 Mr Gregory Owusu the Ashanti Regional Director in charge of Extension Services also appealed to the government to intensify it's efforts in irrigation farming so that  we can have adjustable farming season all year round.

 

According to him,most farmers depend highly on the two major seasons in GHANA and its high time the government lay much prioritized irrigation farming to serve as a phase in the agric sector. 

 Mr Charles Adu the Sekyere Central District Agriculture Director also stated that, pests and diseases have been causing severe havoc to vegetable crops in the area but plans are far advanced to control the canker bedeviling the farmers.

 

He unveiled that,Research Extention Linkage Committee had been formed by MoFA to address the needs of the farmers extensively with regards to the pests and disease control.


Currently we have the mandate to test two different type of fungicide and six kinds of insecticide and this would help us figure out the efficacy of these products and do the necessary recommendation for farmers.
